V Section III recap Oct. 16, 2012
Morenci extended the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating Miami, 62-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
San Carlos and Alchesay played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with San Carlos eventually emerging with a 27-26 victory. Edwin Belvado ran for 36 yards and caught one passes for 37 yards in the win.
Mike Greer was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 114 yards as Benson defeated Benson. Teammate Jordan Roller added to the ground attack by rushing for 21 yards.
Jacob Frithsen put up the best numbers through the air as Pusch Ridge Christian Academy bested Santa Cruz Valley. He finished with a total of nine completions for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Frithsen's favorite target this week was Parker Gotcher, who caught three passes for 57 yards.
Presley Motes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles beat the Bobcats. He completed 15 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 46 yards. Motes' favorite target this week was Drage, who caught nine passes for 234 yards.
Thatcher's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Motes has thrown for 1346 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Drage has 41 catches for 832 yards. Garet Kartchner leads the league in rushing with 686 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Willcox takes on Morenci. As it stands, the Cowboys are in third, while Frank Ogas' team is in first.
The Wildcats led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on the Vandals.
