Basketball Recap: Monte Alto Takes a Loss

Monte Alto was the 81-7 winner over Vanguard Academy Beethoven when they last played one another back in January of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Monte Alto Blue Devil took a 75-60 bruising from Vanguard Academy Beethoven on Friday. The Blue Devil have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Monte Alto lost, don't look at Ricky Serrano. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 20 on his way to 31 points. Serrano has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Ramiro Vazquez was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Yandel Rosell was his usual excellent self, going 14 of 26 on his way to 31 points along with seven assists and five boards for Vanguard Academy Beethoven. Kendrick Velasquez was another key player, going 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Monte Alto's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Vanguard Academy Beethoven, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Monte Alto will look to defend their home court on Monday against IDEA College Prep at 11:30 a.m. As for Vanguard Academy Beethoven, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-53 win against IDEA North Mission on the 21st.
