Gavin Jackson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Mauk, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Huett, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, University made sure to put some runs up on the board against Greencastle on Saturday. The Trailblazers walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Tiger Cubs.
Caleb Stocker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Beckett Suh was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Charlie Ranek also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
University lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Providence's record now sits at 16-6. As for University, their record is now 20-11.
Everything went Providence's way against University in their previous meeting back in June of 2021, as Providence made off with a 14-1 win. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trailblazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
