La Villa is 7-1 against Santa Maria since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The La Villa Cardinals will be playing at home against the Santa Maria Cougars at 7:30 p.m. La Villa will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Last Friday, La Villa didn't have too much trouble with Ben Bolt on the road as they won 20-2.
Rey Perez went supernova for La Villa, rushing for 148 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, while also picking up 71 receiving yards. Perez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards.
Meanwhile, Santa Maria got themselves on the board against Kaufer on Friday, but Kaufer never followed suit. They blew past the Seahawks 55-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Santa Maria, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Santa Maria's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Martinez, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Esiah Gracia, who gained 71 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: La Villa has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Santa Maria struggles in that department as they've been even better at 187.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
La Villa won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, slipping by Santa Maria 36-35. Will La Villa repeat their success, or does Santa Maria have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
