Walkertown had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-3 to make it four. They fell just short of the Morehead Panthers by a score of 6-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolfpack of the 4-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Walkertown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devin Blodgett, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That run marked the first that Blodgett has scored this season.
As for Morehead, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
On Morehead's side, Ben Wade and Zachary Grogan made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wade tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Grogan struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Wade has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wade went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Grogan went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Wade has become a key player for Morehead: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jacob Sands was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Judson Friese, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Morehead will take on Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Walkertown will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' game: after the Panthers face off against the Bulldogs, they'll take on Walkertown again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
