Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 12 on the offensive boards, a fact the Sumner Stingrays proved on Tuesday. They came out on top against Robinson by a score of 52-45. That's another feather in the cap for Sumner, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jewel Harwell was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Gill-guyette, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jennie Gutman, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Natalie Ashburn, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and seven blocks.
Sumner's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Robinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Sumner won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Brandon at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Brandon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 538th, while Sumner is ranked 114th). Robinson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Steinbrenner at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Steinbrenner's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
