Athenian has been on the road for two straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the International Jaguars at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Athenian's strategy against the Cougars on Thursday. Athenian strolled past the Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 52-37. Given Athenian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Cougars are ranked 684th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Teni Salako went supernova for Athenian, scoring 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Lucas, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, International had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.1 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They blew past The Bay School 59-37.
Athenian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for International, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5.
Everything went Athenian's way against the Jaguars in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the Owls made off with a 57-37 victory. Does Athenian have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
