The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Shamokin, who defeated 304th ranked Northgate, 46-20. Alex Lasslo threw for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 29 yards in the win.
Apollo Ridge's Gareth Dilick recorded the longest rushing play in WPIAL A Eastern this season in his game against Wilkinsburg last week. Dilick scampered for 61 yards on the play and finished with 72 on the day as his team bested the Tigers.
Apollo Ridge's dynamic duo of Jesse Zelonka and Tre Tipton proved tough for Wilkinsburg to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zelonka threw for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns and Tipton had 68 yards receiving. Alex Smith helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 45 yards.
John Skiba's team's dynamic duo of Zelonka and Tipton proved to be unstoppable against Mike Fulmore's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Zelonka put up the best numbers in passing as the Vikings beat the Tigers.
Tipton was the best wideout in the league this week as Apollo Ridge topped Wilkinsburg.
Andrew Wingard was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 135 yards as the Wolves beat the Tigers. Zac Horner also contributed to the rushing game with 97 yards on the ground.
Leading WPIAL A Eastern in both passing and receiving yards, Apollo Ridge's Zelonka and Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Zelonka has thrown for 274 yards this season, while Smith has 6 catches for 118 yards. Horner from West Shamokin leads the league in rushing with 177 yards.
At the moment, the Flames are in fifth, while North Catholic is in second.
The Vikings were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in the league. Apollo Ridge beat Wilkinsburg 56-36 earlier in the week.
