The Escambia County Blue Devils struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Jackson Aggies had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Escambia County lost to Jackson on the road by a decisive 58-40 margin. Escambia County has not had much luck with Jackson recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Escambia County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Stephen Williams. Despite the final result, he scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and four blocks. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 12 games he's played. Cleo Bolar jr. was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Jackson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Micah Caster led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Caster pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Duckworth, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Escambia County's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Jackson, their win was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-2.
Escambia County will head out on the road to challenge Bullock County on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Alabama (Escambia County is ranked 143rd, while Bullock County is ranked 150th). As for Jackson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Booker T. Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Booker T. Washington will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Jackson surely won't give up without a fight.
