The Lorena Leopards will challenge the Waco Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Lorena is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 8, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 8-2 to Grand Saline. The Leopards have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Isabella Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waco). They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over DeSoto on Friday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Chloe Nava made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That earned run was her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Jacquelyn Warren was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alayna Gutierrez, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Waco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lorena's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Waco, the win got them back to even at 2-2-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lorena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Waco struggles in that department as they've averaged .409. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lorena took their victory against Waco in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. Does Lorena have another victory up their sleeve, or will Waco turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
