Not much got past Bryan Hadder, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Nash Central off the board. Hadder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Piner, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Luke Mcintosh, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Lenoir ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over South Granville.
Carter Chadwick was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
North Lenoir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Granville only managed five hits.
East Carteret pushed their record up to 25-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home. As for North Lenoir, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Carteret hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Carteret took their victory against North Lenoir in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
