The Jonesville Comets will take on the Homer Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Jonesville will be strutting in after a win while Homer will be coming in after a defeat.
Jonesville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Camden-Frontier on Wednesday. The Comets blew past the Redskins 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Talon Titus made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Drew Bradley and Devan Herendeen did most of the damage at the plate: Bradley went 1-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base, while Herendeen went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Herendeen has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Harper Griffiths, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Jonesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Homer lost 7-1 to Leslie on Monday.
Jonesville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Homer, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-9.
Homer's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Jonesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Homer, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Jonesville keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
Jonesville couldn't quite finish off Homer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
