The Lyman Greyhounds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Lake Brantley at home by a decisive 59-45 margin. While losing is never fun, Lyman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while Lake Brantley is ranked 99th).
When it comes to explaining why Lyman lost, one person who can't be blamed is Max Mattingly. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Masters, who scored six points.
Leading Lake Brantley to victory were Princeton Gordon and Landen Paquette. Gordon dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Paquette scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Gordon continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Lewis, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Lyman has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Lake Brantley, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyman will square off against Lake Howell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Brantley, they will head out on the road to challenge Boone at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Boone focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday.
