It was a good run, but the Williams Vikings unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 45-38 to Hopi. Williams was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hopi apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Williams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kai Mortensen . Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals. Mortensen scored a full 42.1% of Williams' points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Braydyn Larimore, who scored 11 points along with 3 steals.
Williams' defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Hopi, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Williams will head out on the road to face off against Mogollon at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hopi, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Alchesay at 6:00 p.m. Alchesay presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hopi in Arizona (Alchesay is ranked 12th, while Hopi is ranked 85th).
