The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Liberty in their matchups with James Wood: they've now lost nine in a row.
James Wood was led to victory by Josie Russell and Brooklynn Medina. Russell dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Medina scored 25 points along with eight assists and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Medina has scored at least 25% of James Wood's points. Maddie Shirley was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven steals.
Liberty bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for James Wood, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6.
Liberty will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fauquier at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. James Wood and Southern will round out the year against one another at 8:00 p.m. on December 29th at. Southern presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than James Wood in their respective states (Southern is ranked 63rd in Maryland, while James Wood is ranked 202nd in Virginia).
