DeWitt hasn't had much luck against Woodlawn recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. DeWitt will look to defend their home field against Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
DeWitt barely beat Des Arc the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. DeWitt blew past Des Arc 16-1 on Monday. The Dragons have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodlawn). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hampton a 27-0 shutout on Monday. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Logan Clark and Tyner Burris made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Clark pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Burris tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Clark a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Clark went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, while Burris went 1-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those doubles marked the first that Clark hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tate Hall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hollis Holderfield, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Woodlawn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton only posted an OBP of .200.
Woodlawn is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. DeWitt pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
DeWitt suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Woodlawn in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will DeWitt have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
