The Willow Canyon Wildcats will square off against the Casa Grande Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Willow Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Willow Canyon took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Buckeye as they made off with a 12-4 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Lucy Burroughs and Easton Spriggs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Burroughs tossed five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Spriggs tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Burroughs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Burroughs went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Spriggs went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Lailia Marrero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Willow Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 14-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Casa Grande waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mountain Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 27th.
MacKayla Wallace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Alejandra Valencia Valenzuela was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Trinity Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Willow Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Casa Grande, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willow Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Casa Grande struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
