The Coalfield Yellow Jackets will square off against the University School Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Coalfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Coalfield took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over Cumberland County. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Knox Pemberton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Coalfield let Jackson Treece and Blake Hester run wild. Treece went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Hester went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lane Adcock was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Coalfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cumberland County only posted an OBP of .314.
Meanwhile, University School narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Madison 4-3.
Coalfield pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for University School, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
