Basketball Recap: Union County Beats South Decatur for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Union County came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the South Decatur Cougars by a score of 40-33. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Despite the defeat, South Decatur saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Taylor Somers went 7 for 12 on her way to 15 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Somers a new career-high in points.

Union County pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for South Decatur, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Union County will head out on the road to square off against Tri at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tri is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. As for South Decatur, they will welcome Christian Academy of Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Decatur is facing Christian Academy of Madison at the right time seeing as Christian Academy of Madison is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
