Douglass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chaparral Roadrunners. One positive for the Bulldogs, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Addie Brewer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Brewer was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. She also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Gentry Bergsten was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ava Ast was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Douglass was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Douglass' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Chaparral, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Coming up, Douglass will take on Kingman at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chaparral, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Kingman/Norwich at 4:00 p.m. on the 24th.
