The Fitzgerald Spartans will square off against the Mott Marauders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fitzgerald is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Fitzgerald turned things around against Farber Hebrew Day on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Farber Hebrew Day with a sharp 10-2 win. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18th (when they won 19-4).
Thomas Baranski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Baranski was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leiland McCallep, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April. Dexter Garda was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Mott posted their closest victory since April 13, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out New Haven 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Marauders.
Lucas Wypiszewski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Kevin Barden was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Alex Dunn, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Mott's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fitzgerald, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Fitzgerald might still be hurting after the 21-4 defeat they got from Mott in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
