For the first time this season, Bear River will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Ridgeline Riverhawks at 4:30 p.m. Bear River will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Bear River is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bountiful a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Holden Potter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooks Drollinger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallin Rice, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Bear River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Ridgeline hadn't done well against Snow Canyon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Ridgeline came out on top in a nail-biter against Snow Canyon, sneaking past 5-3. The game was the first time the Riverhawks have beaten the Warriors on their field since March 18, 2017.
Ripken Jensen was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base. Tyson Smith was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
The win was the sixth in a row for Ridgeline, bringing their record for this year to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bear River, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything went Bear River's way against Ridgeline when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Bear River made off with a 15-8 victory. Does Bear River have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ridgeline turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
