Battle Mountain and Glenwood Springs are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Huskies will welcome the Demons at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Battle Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Battle Mountain managed to slip by Summit the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Huskies came up short against the Tigers last Wednesday, falling 13-1.
Battle Mountain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was William Townsend, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Glenwood Springs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Red Hawks as they made off with a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Demons, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Glenwood Springs also got a great performance from Lucas Stott as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Evan Neuman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Travis Wagner was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Glenwood Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montrose only posted an OBP of .316.
Battle Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Glenwood Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Battle Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glenwood Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Battle Mountain was able to grind out a solid win over Glenwood Springs in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 14-9. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
