The Clinton Prairie Gophers waltzed into their game on Saturday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They came out on top against Covington by a score of 46-36. Given Clinton Prairie's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Covington is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Covington lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Coye Ferguson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Herzog, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Clinton Prairie's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Covington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-11.
Clinton Prairie will head out on the road to square off against Tri-Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Tri-Central's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Covington, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against South Vermillion at 7:30 p.m.
