In what's become a running theme this season, Piedmont Community Charter gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They blew past Jackson Day 74-34 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-13.
It was another big night for Bobby Erwin, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Wilcher, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Apprentice Academy took a serious blow against Queen's Grant on Friday, falling 92-45. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Apprentice Academy in their matchups with Queen's Grant: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite their defeat, Apprentice Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Radear Watson, who scored 21 points along with three steals and two blocks, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 46.7% of Apprentice Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ayden Eddington, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Piedmont Community Charter's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Apprentice Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Piedmont Community Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Apprentice Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 4.6 rebounds per game. Given Piedmont Community Charter's sizeable advantage in that area, Apprentice Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Piedmont Community Charter against Apprentice Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 75-36 win.
