The East Columbus Gators will take on the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Columbus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
East Columbus will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against West Columbus on Tuesday. The Gators blew past the Vikings 19-1. Considering the Gators have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Gracie Coyle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Coyle was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jenna King was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Aleigh Godwin was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Ashley's offense. They came up short against South Brunswick on Tuesday, falling 11-0. The loss continues a trend for the Screaming Eagle in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost eight in a row.
East Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.
Ashley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Columbus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .412. It's a different story for Ashley, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain East Columbus' hitters?
East Columbus beat Ashley 9-4 when the teams last played on April 9th. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Screaming Eagle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
