The Durango Demons will head out to take on the Palisade Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Durango is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Durango came out on top against Montrose on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Demons walked away with an 8-4 win over the Red Hawks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Demons.
Dawson McInnes made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Romero, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Duncan Walsh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Palisade put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Rifle. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Durango, Palisade also got a great game from a two-way player: Ascher Morby. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Morby was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Ethan Bevan looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Grant Porter was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
Palisade always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Palisade's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Durango, their record is now 13-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Durango has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Palisade struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Durango suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Palisade in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
