Crown Point is a perfect 10-0 against Portage since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Crown Point 1.9, Portage 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Portage will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Crown Point extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Bulldogs never let Munster get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Logan Johnston looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Billy Chidsey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Portage, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Hobart by a score of 4-0 on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Not much got past Hunter Cole, who gave up just six hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Hobart off the board. Cole has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Portage's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Ketchum, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Those two doubles gave Ketchum a new career-high.
Crown Point's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Portage, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Crown Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Portage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Crown Point's way against Portage when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Crown Point made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
