The Baldwin Braves waltzed into their matchup Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They greeted the New Year with with a 61-42 win over Washington County. Given Baldwin's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Washington County is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Tremarius Lawrence, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Karez Demory, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Washington County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kamonta Durden. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Durden's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Baldwin pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Washington County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Baldwin and West Laurens will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
