Make it nine blowout wins for the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons this season. They breezed by Pinnacle Classical Academy at home to the tune of 71-19 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but Thomas Jefferson sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Thomas Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maddie Connor, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten steals. It was the first time this season that Connor scored 15 or more points. Breasia Ussery was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on ten points, nine assists, and ten steals.
Loss or not, Pinnacle Classical Academy got some senior leadership from Aaliyah Davis and Akeelah Davis. Davis almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Davis. scored five points along with six rebounds and six blocks. Davis is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Thomas Jefferson's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Pinnacle Classical Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.
Thomas Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Ironmen at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Cherryville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 546th, while the Gryphons are ranked 169th). Pinnacle Classical Academy is on the road again on Friday and plays the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Community Christian Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
