The Wesson Cobras will head out on the road to take on the Puckett Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wesson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Perry Central a 6-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Cobras in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Not much got past Cooper Neely, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Perry Central off the board. Neely has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Parker Brooks, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, in Saturday's Canine Competition, Puckett prevailed. They blew past Bay Springs 16-1 on Saturday.
Truitte Carter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Carter was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Ethan Lawson was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Tim Axton was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Puckett lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Wesson's record now sits at 18-7-1. As for Puckett, their record is now 26-3-1.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wesson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesson might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Puckett in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Cobras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
