While the Dunbar Crimson Tide couldn't quite beat the Dunbar Poets on Saturday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 42-point loss they were dealt last Thursday. The Crimson Tide fell just short of the Poets by a score of 56-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Crimson Tide came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in District of Columbia, while the Poets are ranked 79th in Maryland).
The Crimson Tide lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Howard, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Jackson, who scored nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for the Crimson Tide and nudges their season record down to 10-9. As for the Poets, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Crimson Tide are on the road again on Monday and plays the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. One thing working in the Bulldogs' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests. As for the Poets, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bears at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
