On Monday, Xavier College Prep faced Sunnyslope in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Xavier College Prep Gators managed a 47-42 victory over the Sunnyslope Vikings. The win was familiar territory for the Gators who have now won five contests in a row.
Irene(Noelle) Guiamatsia was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Lange, who posted eight points and five boards.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maggie Luba, who earned 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Amelia Mickelson, who had eight points in addition to eight boards and four blocks.
Xavier College Prep's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Sunnyslope, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7.
Xavier College Prep will be playing at home against Perry at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
