Mt. Vernon is 2-8 against Heritage Hills since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Heritage Hills Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Mt. Vernon is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Mt. Vernon didn't have too much trouble with Mt. Carmel at home as they won 55-36. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 86th in Indiana, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 491st in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Nicot Burnett, who scored 28 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mt. Vernon's points. Meyer Robb was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, even though Evansville Memorial scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, Heritage Hills still came out on top. Heritage Hills escaped with a win against Evansville Memorial by the margin of a single free throw, 66-65.
Trent Sisley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Gray, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 4-1. Heritage Hills' record now sits at 5-1.
Mt. Vernon suffered a grim 69-48 defeat to Heritage Hills in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
