Morehead is 8-2 against the Phoenix since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Morehead Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the McMichael Phoenix at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Morehead came up short against the Wildcats and fell 68-59. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (55), Morehead still had to take the loss.
The losing side was boosted by Makel Smith, who scored 34 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 57.6% of Morehead's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Chandler, who scored nine points along with seven assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 94-55, which was the final score in McMichael's tilt against the Rams on Wednesday. McMichael has not had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Morehead has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for McMichael, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14.
Everything came up roses for Morehead against the Phoenix in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 80-47 victory. Will Morehead repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
