Bluestem is 0-10 against Humboldt since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bluestem Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Humboldt Cubs. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bluestem has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Humboldt will arrive with seven straight victories.
While Bluestem couldn't quite beat Eureka on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 32-point defeat they were dealt on Tuesday. Bluestem fell just short of Eureka by a score of 50-47.
In what's become a running theme this season, Humboldt gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cherryvale 78-17 at home. Humboldt's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Humboldt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Colden Cook led the charge by scoring 19 points. Cook has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sam Hull, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Bluestem's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Humboldt, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Bluestem was dealt a bruising 70-34 loss at the hands of Humboldt in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Bluestem, Trey Sommer (who scored 26 points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
