The Cuba Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. Their rough 77-57 defeat to Tohatchi might stick with them for a while. Cuba has not had much luck with Tohatchi recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Tohatchi's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Dawes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dawes pulled down eight or more rebounds. Kyle Yazzie was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Cuba has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Tohatchi, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cuba will square off against Santa Fe Indian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe Indian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cuba in New Mexico (Santa Fe Indian is ranked 30th, while Cuba is ranked 112th). As for Tohatchi, they will head out on the road to challenge Navajo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Navajo Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
