Laney hasn't had much luck against Ashley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will face off against the Screaming Eagle. Laney will be looking to extend their current 17-game winning streak.
Laney is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Millbrook.
TJ Ziermann was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of JB Brooks, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Ashley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They beat Apex Friendship by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Screaming Eagle, who have now won six contests in a row.
Jackson Lee tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tanner Berry, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Ashley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Laney's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ashley, their record now sits at 22-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ashley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Laney skirted past Ashley 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Screaming Eagle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
