It was a good run, but the Destin Sharks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Rocky Bayou Christian 60-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Destin had strong showings from Bryson Nixon, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists, and Deshawn Ford, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Leading Rocky Bayou Christian to victory were Devin Hicks and Calix Mccune. Hicks dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists, while Mccune scored 28 points. The game was Hicks' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Lathan Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Destin's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Rocky Bayou Christian, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Destin won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Walton at 5:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Walton will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Rocky Bayou Christian will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Elberta at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
