The North Moore Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 66-55 to Southwestern Randolph. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why North Moore lost, one person who can't be blamed is Colby Pennington. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Dawson Futrell was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, North Moore smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Southwestern Randolph had a senior duo take command as Nathan Ellis scored 27 points along with five rebounds and Marcus Robertson scored 19 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ellis has scored at least a third of Southwestern Randolph's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Chapman, who scored eight points.
North Moore has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Southwestern Randolph, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Moore won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cummings at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cummings presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than North Moore in North Carolina (Cummings is ranked 254th, while North Moore is ranked 526th). As for Southwestern Randolph, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Trinity has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 432 points over their last six matchups.
