The Los Gatos Wildcats came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they left with even more momentum. They pulled ahead with a 56-55 photo finish over Milpitas. Given Los Gatos' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Milpitas is ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Los Gatos' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nolan G. koch led the charge by scoring 22 points. Another player making a difference was Scotty Brennan, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Milpitas' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Wrencher, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wrencher has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Nguyen, who scored 13 points.
Los Gatos is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Milpitas, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4.
Los Gatos will head out on the road to take on Gunn at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gunn knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Los Gatos likes a good challenge. As for Milpitas, they will be playing at home against Wilcox at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
