Softball Game Preview: Southern Door Eagles vs. Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran Blazers

Southern Door has gone a perfect 3-0 against Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Blazers at 4:30 p.m. Southern Door knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran likes a good challenge.

Southern Door saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on Wrightstown with a sharp 12-2 victory. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Samantha Melville was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Delfosse, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madyson Counard, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Southern Door was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell 6-1 to Algoma. The Blazers haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Southern Door pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Everything went Southern Door's way against Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, as Southern Door made off with a 21-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
