Baseball Recap: Richton Takes a Loss

If Richton was feeling good fresh off their 13-6 takedown of Collins last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rebels took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lumberton Panthers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in February.

Tuck Fulmer and Elisha Byrd did some serious damage despite the final result: Fulmer scored three runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Byrd scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Richton is 2-1 when Byrd posts two or more runs, but 3-18 otherwise. Wyatt Cochran was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Richton has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Lumberton, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1.

Coming up, Richton will face off against Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. Lumberton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
