After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Father Capodanno by a score of 39-32. That's another feather in the cap for St. Thomas More Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
St. Thomas More Academy found their leader in underclassman Joseph De Guzman, who scored 15 points along with four steals. De Guzman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Baxley, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Several Grunts players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Moon, who scored nine points.
St. Thomas More Academy's win bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Father Capodanno, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14.
St. Thomas More Academy and Neuse Christian Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Neuse Christian Academy is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Father Capodanno, they will head out on the road to square off against Star Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Star Christian Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
