Basketball Recap: Gabryela Galvan Key Part of a Team Effort in Cardinals Win

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Southside on Friday. They strolled past the Harlandale Indians with points to spare, taking the game 58-41. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 48-45 back in December of 2024.

Southside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabryela Galvan, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 11 boards, and nine assists. That's the most assists Galvan has posted since back in November of 2024. McKayla Flores was another key player, putting up 18 points and five rebounds.

Galvan wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Southside was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Harlandale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sadie Mancha posted ten points. Amiya Neri also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Southside pushed their record up to 26-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Harlandale, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season.

Southside will host Winn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southside is facing Winn at the right time seeing as Winn is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. Harlandale has already played their next game (against South San Antonio), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
