While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, the Gulf Coast Sharks were not quite the Barron Collier Cougars's equal in the second half on Friday. Gulf Coast fell 28-21 to Barron Collier. Gulf Coast was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Barron Collier apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Gulf Coast's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jace Seyler, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Cayden Daugherty, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Niko Boyce was his usual excellent self, throwing for 314 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Brody Graham was another key contributor, picking up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Gulf Coast and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Barron Collier, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf Coast will take on Immokalee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Barron Collier will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Port Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th. Port Charlotte knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Barron Collier likes a good challenge.
