1A Southern Peaks recap Oct. 9, 2012
Centauri extended the longest winning streak in 1A Southern Peaks this week by beating Ignacio, 48-8. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Monte Vista made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,072 from 8,657. The advance stemmed from a 40-6 victory over Del Norte last week.
Dolores's dynamic duo of Kolton Schull and Chaz Thompson proved tough for Center to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Schull threw for 84 yards and one touchdown and Thompson had 82 yards receiving. Ethan Upton helped Dolores' passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
Shadron Wenta was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 132 yards on 26 carries as the Pirates defeated the Vikings. Teammate Hansel Garcia added to the ground attack by rushing for 123 yards.
Centauri's KC Jarvies and Clay McCarroll have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jarvies has thrown for 496 yards this season, while McCarroll, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 10 catches for 248 yards. Monte Vista's Wenta leads the league in rushing yards with 783.
A big matchup in 1A Southern Peaks this week will be when Dolores takes on Greg Jones' team. Ray Weir's team is currently in third, while the Pirates are in first.
