Softball Recap: Trinity Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Trinity ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Somersworth Toppers 8-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-3 on Monday.

Emily Flynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Romano, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Pearson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Trinity kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somersworth only managed seven hits.

Trinity is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Somersworth, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Coming up, Trinity will venture away from home to take on Prospect Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Timberwolves will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Somersworth, they will face off against Hillsboro-Deering at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hillcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something the Toppers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
