Basketball Game Preview: D.H. Conley Vikings vs. Northside - Jacksonville Monarchs

The D.H. Conley Vikings will head out to challenge the Northside - Jacksonville Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. D.H. Conley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Northside - Jacksonville likes a good challenge.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, D.H. Conley turned things around against Wake Christian Academy last Saturday. They took down the Bulldogs 64-49.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead D.H. Conley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cayden Hill, who posted 13 points along with six boards and six steals. The dominant performance gave Hill a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Samari Cabell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

D.H. Conley was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wake Christian Academy only racked up eight assists.

Meanwhile, Northside - Jacksonville was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 66-57 to Havelock.

D.H. Conley will have to keep a close watch on Joaliel Caraballo and Peyton Mayhew, a pair of players who had a big impact on Northside - Jacksonville's prior game. Caraballo went 7 for 10 en route to 15 points in addition to six boards and six steals, while Mayhew went 8 of 13 on his way to 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Caraballo has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamir Mitchell, who scored six points and eight boards.

Northside - Jacksonville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for D.H. Conley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: D.H. Conley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Northside - Jacksonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

D.H. Conley couldn't quite finish off Northside - Jacksonville when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 48-46. Can D.H. Conley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
