Edgerton will take on Swanton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Edgerton had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Tinora on Thursday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Rams.
Corinne Cape spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Whitney Wright and Olivia Wallace did most of the damage at the plate: Wright got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Wallace went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Everetts, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Edgerton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tinora only posted an OBP of .276.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Swanton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Toledo Christian on Wednesday by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Beyla Remer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Remer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lacey Shinaver, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Carli LaGrange also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Edgerton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Swanton, they pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Edgerton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Swanton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Edgerton's way against Swanton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Edgerton made off with a 16-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edgerton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
